Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Manipur on September 13, his first trip since ethnic violence broke out in the State in May 2023. During the visit, he called for peace, met displaced families and launched development projects worth thousands of crores.

In the above context, a video that appears to be a vlog is being widely shared on social media in which people are seen protesting on one side of the road and vehicles are seen moving on the other.

The video is shared with a caption suggesting that it is of the people of Manipur protesting PM Modi during his visit.

A social media user shared the video and wrote, “The people of Manipur have rejected Modi, RSS and the BJP. This is a sign that a people’s movement like in Nepal is about to happen in India!” (Translated from Hindi)

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video is old, and it shows people protesting in Kolkata against the Waqf Amendment Act.

On a Google reverse image search, we found the same video on a YouTube channel, Trisha Roy, uploaded on April 14. The video was shared with a caption suggesting that the viral video is from Kolkata.

The bio of the YouTube channel suggests that the user is a vlogger who lives in Kolkata. On scrolling through the YouTube channel, we found more videos claiming to be from Kolkata. This hinted that the video might be from Kolkata.

We further found a photo showing a scene similar to the visual in the viral video. The photo was shared by a website, Times Content.com. The information on the website stated that the gathering was a protest in Kolkata against the Waqf (Amendment) Act.

The caption of the image read, “ISF protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Act in Kolkata : Indian Secular Front (ISF) supporters in large numbers take part in a protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025 which started from Sealdah Station area to Ramlila Maidan halted the traffic for a long time, at Red Road in Kolkata on April 14, 2025. (sic)”

Upon close analysis of the image and visuals from the viral video, we could conclude that both showed the same event.

Both visuals have people protesting on the left side of the road. A blue building on the left side and a white building on the right are present in both visuals. We can also see similar blue advertisement boards in the centre of the street hanging on poles.

According to a report by Deccan Herald, dated April 14, ISF supporters tried to march from Bhangar (via Basanti Highway) to Ramlila Maidan, Kolkata, protesting the Waqf (Amendment) Act. Police blocked them, leading to clashes, vehicle torching, injuries and disruptions.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
