Fact Check

A video of a person in a police uniform seemingly being chased by a reporter has gone viral. Those sharing the video claim it shows a uniformed police official in Punjab caught by the media while smoking marijuana.

A social media user shared the video and wrote, “In Kejriwal’s Punjab, even people in uniform have become hashish addicts. Policemen themselves are smoking ganja while in uniform. This is called ‘High Level Ground Reporting.’ If all reporters become like this, it won’t take long for the country to improve.”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is from Pakistan, not India.

On a Google reverse image search, we found screenshots of the same video shared by India TV on its Facebook page on December 22, 2024. The video was shared with the caption, “Pakistan police turned out to be fond of marijuana, caught smoking and selling it.” According to the report on their website, the incident occurred in Punjab, Pakistan.

We further found that the same video and the associated report were also published by ABP Live on December 22, 2024. The report suggested that the video is from Pakistan.

Another Instagram page shared the video claiming that Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) leader Fatima had also shared the video on her account suggesting that it is of Pakistan’s Punjab where a policeman was seen smoking ganja.

Therefore, we conclude that the viral video is from Pakistan and not India.
