A video is being widely shared on social media in which a woman is being forced onto the back of a two-wheeler by men in police uniform.

The video is being shared with a caption claiming that the video is from Uttar Pradesh and it shows police taking a Dalit woman to a deserted place to bury her. The claim is further linked to the recent Dharmasthala incident that took place in Karnataka.

A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Dharmasthala! Killing and burying women and Dalit children is a common thing in UP, MP, Gujarat and Rajasthan.” (Translated from Malayalam)

What is the Dharmasthala case?

According to news reports, a former Dalit sanitation worker at the Dharmasthala temple (1995–2014) alleges he was forced under threats to bury hundreds of bodies, many women and girls showing signs of sexual assault and strangulation, sparking a Special Investigation Team probe.

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video shows police taking a woman, accused of selling illicit liquor, into custody.

On a Google reverse image search, we found the same video shared by the X account of Asian News Bharat on August 4. The caption read, “A video has surfaced from Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, showing a woman being forcibly made to sit on a bike, with allegations of assault made against the police.” (Translated from Hindi)

We further found that a screenshot of the video was shared by Patrika on August 4.

According to the report, during an anti-illicit-liquor operation in Bhiwadi, Alwar, police allegedly forcibly tried to make a woman mount a motorcycle. The report further stated that she fainted and a bystander who was filming the incident was detained. The villagers protested fiercely and demanded an FIR.

The incident was also reported by Dainik Bhaskar with the same details.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
