A video of BJP MP Ravi Kishan is circulating widely on social media. In the video, Kishan is heard saying, “Unko ghoomna hai, videsh yatra mein unko aanand aata hai... azaad parinda hain.” (He likes to roam, he enjoys foreign trips... he is a free bird).
Text superimposed on the video claims that the actor-turned-politician is taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent foreign tours. Those sharing the video are supporting the claim.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Ravi Kishan says Modi ji enjoys his time abroad.” (Translated from Hindi)
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. In the original video, Ravi Kishan commented on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, not the Prime Minister.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by Ravi Kishan on his X handle on May 23. The viral clip was shared with a caption: “Congress should now set free its prince, Rahul Gandhi.”
We further found that the same video was also shared by the Facebook page of ANI on May 13, with a caption that reads, “‘War doesn’t seem to be ending...’ Ravi Kishan warns the country about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.”
We further found that the longer version of the video was then found on the YouTube channel of AsiaNet News Hindi on May 13.
At the 4-minute, 42-second mark, a reporter is heard asking Kishan a question about Rahul Gandhi, specifically about the Congress leader distancing himself from the selection process of the CBI director. Kishan’s response in the video has been edited and shared out of context.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
