An image of former Indian cricket player Sachin Tendulkar is being widely shared on social media. In the image, he can be seen standing and posing beside the photo of cricketer Virat Kohli.
The image is shared with a caption that reads, “King Of Cricket & God Of Cricket.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral image is edited.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that a similar image was shared by NDTV Sports on July 10. In the image shared by NDTV, we can see the same wall as in the viral image, and Sachin is also seen wearing the same dress. However, the photo is of Sachin and not Kohli.
According to the report, ahead of the 3rd Test at Lord’s, Sachin Tendulkar was honoured by MCC with his portrait unveiled at the museum. He also rang the iconic five‑minute bell and reflected on his first time visiting the ground as a teenager in 1988.
The original image was also tweeted by Sachin Tendulkar on July 10 with a caption that reads, “I first visited Lord’s as a teenager in 1988 and returned in 1989 with the Star Cricket Club team. I remember standing near the pavilion, soaking in the history and dreaming quietly. Today, to have my portrait unveiled at this very place is a feeling that’s hard to put into words. Life has truly come full circle. I’m grateful and filled with wonderful memories.”
We couldn’t find the exact match for the viral image, which hinted that the image may have been artificially generated using the actual images. We analysed the viral image using the AI detection tool, Sight Engine, and found that the portrait was likely AI-generated.
Hence, we can conclude that the viral claim is false.
