In February 2025, YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia faced significant backlash after making an obscene remark on Samay Raina’s YouTube show, ‘India’s Got Latent.’ The comment led to multiple police complaints, a Supreme Court critique and discussions on stricter social media regulations.
Against the above backdrop, a video is being widely shared on social media in which police are seen arresting people from an apartment. The video is shared with a caption claiming that the police arrested Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia.
A social media user shared the video, which has a text embedded in it that reads that Raina and Allahbadia were arrested from their homes.
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is old, and it shows police arresting two men in Greater Noida for creating chaos over a parking issue.
On a Google reverse image search, we found the same video uploaded by the YouTube channel of Mirror Now on August 14, 2023. The video was shared with a description which stated that the fight broke out in a housing society in Greater Noida which led to the arrest of two men.
Taking a hint, we searched with relevant keywords and found a report published by NDTV on August 14, 2023. The report stated that two people were arrested by the police, and the video of the arrest went viral. The report further suggested that a fight erupted between two people after a dispute over parking erupted at Flora Heritage housing society, a high rise in Greater Noida West. This led to the arrest.
The report had a screenshot of the viral video and a link of an X handle that had shared the viral video. The same video was shared by an X account mentioning that the video was of a Greater Noida West high rise society.
The video was shared on August 14, 2023, along with a tweet from the police commissionerate of Gautam Buddha Nagar.
The tweet read, “In relation to the above video, it is to be informed that on August 13, 2023, there was a fight between some persons regarding parking in the Flora Heritage Society in the Bisrakh police station area. When Bisrakh police station reached the spot and tried to calm down the fight, the work of the police was also hampered by the crowd gathered there. A case has been registered in this regard. Taking legal action, two persons have been detained and investigative action is underway against other unknown persons.”
We also found no media reports of the arrests of Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia.
Therefore, we conclude that the viral claim is false.
