Fact Check
On December 6, the anniversary of the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition, suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir laid the foundation stone for a mosque in Murshidabad, West Bengal, styled after the historic Babri Masjid in Ayodhya.
The move has stirred political debate, and organizers say contributions are flooding in from across India and abroad for the project’s construction.
In the above context, an image is being widely shared on social media in which Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan is seen giving a cheque to Humayun Kabir. A social media user shared the image with a caption suggesting that Shah Rukh Khan has given a donation for the construction of Babri Masjid.
A social media user shared the image with a caption that reads, “Shah Rukh Khan alone donated Rs 25 crore for Babri Masjid. Alhamdulillah.” (Translated from Bangla)
SouthCheck found the claim to be false. We found that the viral image is AI-generated.
On doing a Google Reverse Image Search, we could not find any evidence of the viral image. Moreover, we found no reports of Shahrukh Khan donating money for Babri Masjid construction. If this was true, the reports would have been published by media organisations.
Thus, we suspected it to be an AI-generated image. For instance: The photo frame right behind Humayun Kabir is not clear, while on the top right is clear. Similarly, another photo frame in the left corner is blank. All these descrepencies suggest it to be AI-generated image.
Thus, we checked the image for AI on Hive Moderation and found it to be AI-generated.
