Images purportedly showing Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan in front of the Kaaba in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, have gone viral. Those sharing the images claim them as proof that Gauri Khan has converted to Islam.

A social media user shared the images with the caption, “I thought Gauri hadn’t converted. Non-Muslims aren’t allowed for Umrah. What am I missing? Why this sudden change of Shahrukh Khan’s heart after this? (sic)”

One of the images was shared as a screenshot of a Facebook post by Suhana Khan, SRK’s daughter.

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The images were AI-generated.

We searched with relevant keywords and found no reports of Gauri Khan converting to Islam. We also did not find any Facebook posts by Suhana Khan about the visit to Mecca by SRK and Gauri Khan.

We ran the images through AI detection tools and found that the images were created using Artificial Intelligence. A report by Hive Moderation stated that one image is 99.9 per cent AI-made and the other 98.9 per cent.

We also found a report by Indian Express published on October 8, 2024. According to the report, Gauri Khan said that the couple celebrate Hindu and Islamic festivals together while maintaining their faiths. She also said that she had not converted to Islam.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral images are AI-generated.
