On October 16, the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) announced a major reshuffle: 13 vice-presidents and 58 general secretaries were appointed, and six new members were added to the Political Affairs Committee.

In the above context, a video of a woman in a blue sari and a group of protesting men confronting police and their water cannons has gone viral.

Those sharing the video claim it shows Congress leader Shama Mohamed staging a protest in front of the KPCC office after not being included in the reorganisation.

A social media user shared the video with a caption, “Shama Mohamed staging a public protest in front of the KPCC office for not being included in the KPCC list.”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is old and shows Shama Mohamed in a protest march by the Congress to the Kannur District Collectorate.

On a Google reverse image search, we found the same video was shared by the Reporter Live Facebook page. The caption associated with the video read, “Shama Mohamed walked towards the water cannon during the protest.” The hashtags read, “#shamamohammed #congress #protestmarch #kannur.”

Using this information, we searched with relevant keywords and found a video published by a YouTube channel, 24 News, on November 1, 2024, with a caption that reads, “Clashes erupt as Shama Mohamed, Congress march despite water cannon use.”

The report states that there was a clash during the Congress protest march held in Kannur. The report further suggested that the Indian National Congress protested, demanding the transfer of the district collector, while the investigation into the suicide of ADM Naveen Babu was still ongoing. They accused the collector of siding with PP Divya, the accused in the case.

The incident was also reported by Mathrubhumi on October 16, 2024. According to the report, massive protests erupted in Kannur city after the death of K Naveen Babu, with demonstrators demanding murder charges against PP Divya. Police clashed with protesters at the District Panchayat office, and multiple arrests were made.

The incident was also reported by The Hindu.

Therefore, we conclude that the claim is false.
