Sheikh Hasina, leader of the Awami League, ruled Bangladesh for 15 years until August 2024, when mass protests forced her resignation. Ever since she has been in exile.
In the above context, a video is being widely shared on social media in which Sheikh Hasina is seen being welcomed in a ceremonial manner at a dargah. The text embedded in the video reads, “Leader Sheikh Hasina visits Ajmer Sharif.”
The video is shared with a caption suggesting that it shows Hasina paying a recent visit to Ajmer Sharif Dargah in Rajasthan.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “13/10/2025 People’s leader Sheikh Hasina visited Azmer Sharif. Pride of Bengal, hope of the nation.” (Translated from Bengali)
SouthCheck found that the claim is misleading. The viral video is from 2022.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the screenshot of the video was shared by a news website, Daily Sun, on September 8, 2022.
In the image, we can see Sheikh Hasina paying obeisance at a dargah. The report associated with the image suggests that Sheikh Hasina ended her India visit by offering nafal prayers and munajat at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah in Rajasthan, praying for the development, prosperity and welfare of Bangladesh and the Muslim Ummah.
We further found that The Print also reported about the visit of Sheikh Hasina to Ajmer Sharif Dargah in Rajasthan on September 8, 2022. The video suggested that she went to Ajmer Sharif on the last day of her four-day visit to India.
The event was also reported by The South Asian Times on September 8, 2022.
The report also said that she spent some time offering Fateha and munajat at Ajmer Dargah. Sheikh Hasina later went around the Ajmer Sharif. The then Bangladesh PM started her India visit by offering prayers at the much-revered Nizamuddin Aulia Dargah in New Delhi on September 6.
We also found no reports of Sheikh Hasina visiting Ajmer recently. Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is misleading.
