Against the above backdrop, a video is being widely shared on social media in which Pakistan’s captain Mohammad Rizwan can be heard saying, “We all are sad, but we will clap for ourselves like we are the champions.”
Those sharing the video claim it shows Rizwan motivating his team after the Pakistan cricket team’s journey in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy series ended.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Rizwan Motivating Pakistan Cricket Team after getting Knocked out of #ChampionsTrophy.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video was old.
On a Google reverse image search, we found a longer version of the same video shared on the X account of Multan Sultans on March 21, 2024. The video was shared with a caption that reads, “Together, we’ll come back stronger. We’re not a team, we’re a family.” The hashtag of the post read #HBLPSL9, which refers to the Pakistan Super League 2024.
Taking a hint, we searched with relevant keywords and found that this was also reported by Sports Gaga on March 23, 2024.
We found that Multan Sultans is a Pakistani professional Twenty20 franchise cricket team representing Multan, a city in southern Punjab, in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), a men's T20 cricket league held annually in Pakistan.
Multan Sultans fought the final of PSL in 2024 on March 21 against Islamabad United. However, the Multan Sultans lost the final, after which its captain, Rizwan, gave a motivating speech to his team.
