The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, expected around April–May 2026, will likely see a direct contest between the DMK and AIADMK. Alliances, welfare politics, governance and leadership will be key factors shaping voter decisions across the state.
In the above context, a video is being widely shared on social media in which DMK Deputy General Secretary Kanimozhi can be seen inside a van while a crowd surrounds the vehicle, in an apparent attempt to block the vehicle.
Those sharing the video claim it shows people chasing away Kanimozhi when she went to ask for votes for the upcoming election.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Chasing away thug frontal groups wherever they go—this is the first time in Tamil Nadu. People who chased away the Kaliyuga Kannagi, fake epilepsy-performing Kanimozi.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video is from 2024 and shows Thoothukudi people requesting Kanimozhi during her visit to talk to them.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by Sun News on April 1, 2024. The video was shared with a caption that, when translated into English, read, “Sister, if you just talk, it’s enough—Thoothukudi people stopped.”
In the video, we can see that the public could be seen requesting Kanimozhi to speak, accepting the request and getting into Kanimozhi’s campaign vehicle to speak, and the public applauding and listening enthusiastically.
We found that the screenshot of the viral video was also shared by One India Tamil on April 1, 2024. According to the report, during her Lok Sabha campaign in Thoothukudi, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi received a massive and warm welcome from locals.
At one point, villagers stopped her convoy just to greet her and requested her to speak briefly. She expressed surprise and gratitude, calling it one of the most heartfelt receptions she had received, highlighting strong local support ahead of the elections.
The incident was also reported by another YouTube channel, Puthiyathalaimurai TV, on April 1, 2024. In this longer version of the video, we can also see Kanimozhi speaking from the vehicle.
