Violence broke out across West Bengal after the 2026 Assembly election results were declared on May 4, with clashes reported between BJP and TMC supporters in several districts.
At least four people were killed, many injured, and party offices vandalised. Reports also mentioned arson, shootings, and attacks on political workers. Hundreds were arrested, while security forces and paramilitary personnel were deployed to control the unrest.
In the above context, a video is being widely shared on social media in which a woman is seen giving an interview to a news channel when someone removes the bandage which is on her.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “TMC worker with fake bandage on her head exposed on live tv. Such level of drama.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is from Bihar where there was a fight between the patient’s family and trolley workers.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same image was shared by a Facebook user, Journalist Prem, on May 4, 2026. The About Us section of the Facebook User suggests that he is a journalist who lives in Muzaffarpur, Bihar.
The text on the video read, ‘Maurya Dhwaj Express.’ Taking a hint, we searched with relevant keywords and found that a similar video was posted on the Maurya Dhwaj Express YouTube channel on May 6, 2026. The voice-over for the video said that false claims were being made in order to spread false information.
We further found that the hyperlocal news channel Maurya Dhwaj Express had shared another video on April 28, 2026. In the video, a man is explaining the situation of how the police came and accused nursing staff of beating the attendants of a patient. In the video, we can see the same woman, wearing the same dress and with a bandage on her head as seen in the viral video. The video is shared with a caption that reads, “At SKMCH, the patient's family created a ruckus and the nursing staff halted emergency work.”
This also suggests that the viral video is older than the poll results.
We tried reaching out to journalist Prem for more details. And the copy will be updated based on it.
However, taking a hint, we searched with relevant keywords and found that the incident was also reported by Prabhat Khabar on April 29, 2026. According to the report, authorities at Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur removed all trolley workers accused of assaulting a patient’s family inside the emergency ward. Hospital superintendent Dr. Mahesh Prasad ordered an inquiry and CCTV review into the incident. Following security concerns raised by nurses, the administration also decided to deploy female security guards in and around the emergency ward.
