The BJP secured a historic victory in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, winning 207 of 294 seats and ending All India Trinamool Congress’s 15-year rule. Mamata Banerjee lost her CM seat, while Suvendu Adhikari emerged as the face of BJP’s first government in the state. The results also triggered tensions and post-poll violence in several areas. The results were declared on May 4.

In the above context, an image is being widely shared on social media in which some men are seen coming out of a house wearing a scarf with BJP’s symbol.

The video is being shared with a caption claiming that it shows Muslim men in West Bengal joining the BJP after the party’s landmark victory.

A social media user shared the image with a caption that reads, “The Bengali man is very clever. The Bengali man says that whoever we met with love, we became theirs. Yesterday’s sister is today’s brother-in-law, and that’s the benefit in this. Acting as an anti-power opposition to do the opposition's work is not your responsibility; it's the responsibility of those parties whose power is gone—let them figure it out. Because now even they say the same thing: go die.”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral image is from Assam where some Muslims joined the BJP.

On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was also shared by a Facebook page on March 26, 2026, with a caption that reads, "BJP flag wrapped around his neck, wearing a BJP cap on his head, Miya made the sound of Zindabad. Hundreds of Miyas joined BJP in the presence of Minister Krishnendru Pal."

In this video, at around 4 seconds, we can see the same people as seen in the viral image. Thus, suggesting that both of them are of the same event.

We further found that another hyperlocal Facebook page also shared the same video, suggesting that the video is from Assam.

We further found that the same video was shared by News 18 Assamne on March 27, 2026. We found that the video is shared with a caption which when translated in English reads, "The election environment in Patharkandi! There are many reasons why people have come out in support of Minister Krishnendu Pal." Even in this video, at around 43 seconds, we can see the same people as seen in the viral image. Thus, suggesting that the viral image is of the same incident.

Moreover, Assam MLA Krishnendu Paul had also shared photos of the event where we can see Muslims joining the party. He shared the images of the event with a caption that reads, "At Lowairpoa Mandal BJP Office, we warmly welcomed new members during the joining ceremony. Their trust and support strengthen our mission and commitment towards serving the people with dedication and vision. Together, we move forward for a stronger and developed Patharkandi."
