In the above context, a video is being widely shared on social media in which three people in black uniforms are seen assaulting two persons in a prison.
Social media users shared the video with a caption suggesting that the video shows IDF soldiers torturing Palestinian hostages.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “LIVE FOOTAGE: IDF soldiers always torture Palestinian hostages before executing them. Please don’t let us die in silence. Repost this.”
South Check found the claim to be false. The viral video is from an Iraqi television show titled Umm Layla’s House.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by a YouTube channel, Al-Iraqia General, on March 9. In the video, at around the 7:19-minute timestamp, we can see the same video in the viral video.
We found that the viral video is from episode 16 of a TV series, Beit Umm Layla.
We found that the Instagram page of Iraqia.g.TV. had also shared the same video as the viral video with a caption that reads, “Follow Abu Arrouba takes revenge on the broker and the buyer, killing them in retaliation for Rafid #Beit_Um_Layla #Iraqi_General."
We found that the video was a snippet from 25 episodes of the show on Al-Iraqiya’s YouTube channel, shared between February 19 and March 20.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
