Accusing the ECI of facilitating ‘vote theft’ through Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, the Opposition has charged that voter lists were manipulated, claiming legitimate voters were wrongly removed, favouring the BJP. The BJP and the election commission dismissed it as baseless.
In the above context, a video of Bollywood actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has gone viral on social media.
In the video, she can be seen making a statement to the media saying, “As you can see, the election commission has insulted people and voters. The names of the voters they had mentioned, they are now feeling sad and insulted in their community. In one way, Rahul Gandhi ji has insulted them.” (Translated from Hindi)
The video is shared with a caption suggesting that Kangana Ranaut took a jibe at the Election Commission of India over vote theft.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Kangana Ranaut also got angry at the Election Commission over vote theft. Is Kangana going to leave BJP now?” (Translated from Hindi)
SouthCheck found that the claim is false as the video was edited. In the original video, she was taking a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video of Kangana Ranaut talking to the press was shared by ANI on August 18, 2025.
In the video, she can be heard saying, As you can see, the Election Commission has scolded Rahul Gandhi so much yesterday. He insulted people, he insulted voters and that too. The ones whose names were mentioned, they are showing sorrow too."
The video was shared with a caption that reads, “Delhi: BJP MP Kangana Ranaut said about the Leader of Opposition and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha, "How many times has the Election Commission reprimanded Rahul Gandhi? Yesterday, he insulted the people and voters.... Even after so many reprimands, the spectacle he created here shows that if he doesn't get power, he won't let work happen... When they had the chance, they indulged in corruption, and now when the country is progressing, they are feeling pain. The public is watching, and now they won't win any elections."
In the viral video at around 3 seconds, the part where Kangana says that the Election Commission scolded Rahul Gandhi is edited. Instead it appears that she said, "The election commission has insulted people and voters."
We found that the same video was also uploaded by the Times Now YouTube channel on August 18. We found that Kangana’s statements between 3 seconds to 7 seconds are edited. At this time, she is heard saying, “The election commission has reprimanded Rahul Gandhi. Yesterday, he insulted the people and voters." This particular part is edited.
The video was shared with a caption that reads, “BJP MP Kangana Ranaut says, ‘Election Commission has reprimanded Rahul Gandhi, that he insulted people and voters. Rahul Gandhi has dishonoured the voters he named. Despite such reprimanding, they (INDIA bloc MPs) did drama here today. So, you can understand that if they don’t get power, they would not let any work be done.’
ABP News had also reported about her taking a dig at the opposition over SIR.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is misleading.
