The football team of Turkey was officially eliminated from the World Cup 2026 on June 19-20, after a 0-1 defeat to 10-man Paraguay in their second Group D match. The team failed to score a single goal across its two matches, taking 62 shots without finding the net.
In the above context, an image showing a long convoy of Turkish-made TOGG vehicles draped in flags accompanying the team bus has gone viral on social media.
The image is shared with a caption claiming it depicts the Turkish national football team departing for San Francisco Airport after being eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
A social media user shared it with a caption that reads, “Turkish national team convoy on their way to the San Francisco airport after being knocked out of the World Cup.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The image is from June 2, weeks before the World Cup began.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same image was shared by the Facebook page of ESPN FC on June 2.
The image is shared with a caption that reads, “The convoy Türkiye received as the team bus drove to the airport for, as their World Cup story begins. Incredible send-off.”
We further found that the same image was shared by a Turkish website, Motor1, on June 2. According to the report, Togg, Türkiye’s national mobility and technology brand and the main sponsor of the national football teams, organised a convoy of its smart vehicles to accompany the Turkish men’s national football team from the TFF training complex to Istanbul Airport as they departed for the FIFA World Cup. Featuring T10X and T10F models in colours inspired by Türkiye’s regions, the convoy symbolised national unity and showcased Togg’s ongoing support for Turkish football and sports.
We found that the image was also shared by Modern.Az on June 2.
The report said that the Turkish national football team departed for the USA as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The team bus was accompanied to Istanbul Airport by a special convoy of ‘TOGG’ cars, which are locally produced in Turkey.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
