Fact Check: Video from Gaza shared as Hindus under attack in Bangladesh

A video is being widely shared on social media in which a child is seen sitting amid the rubble. The video is shared with a caption claiming that it is of Hindus being attacked by a Muslim mob in Bangladesh after Sheikh Hasina resigned as the prime minister.

A social media user shared the video with the caption, “Jihadis have torn humanity to pieces, what kind of teachings does their heavenly book give, the entire community is animals.” (Translated from Hindi)

SouthCheck found that the claim was false. We found that the video is of Gaza and shows the aftermath of Israel's bombing of Palestine.

On doing a Google reverse image search, we found the same video uploaded by a Facebook user on July 16, 2024. Since Sheikh Hasina resigned on August 5, the video is old.

Moreover, we closely observed that the video had the logo of Al Jazeera on the top left corner of it.

We found the same video uploaded by Al Jazeera Mubashir on July 14, 2024. The caption associated with the video suggested that it was of a child sitting alone after an Israeli bombing targeted a centre to shelter the displaced in the UNRWA school in the Nuseirat camp.

An Instagram page Humanitarian Relief uploaded the video of the child on July 14, 2024, with a caption mentioning that it was of the aftermath of Israel bombing the UNRWA school in the Nusairat camp in Gaza, where civilians had sought shelter.
