video featuring actors Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff standing on what looks like the van of Mumbai police while greeting a huge crowd is being widely circulated on social media.

People sharing the video are claiming that the Mumbai police are being partial towards celebrities.

“Didn’t know MUMBAI POLICE Car can be used by celebrities for such stunts! Is this facility only for them or for common men too? (sic)” said a user on X after sharing the video.

Social media users are also saying that the police punish people for using sunroofs in cars while allowing celebrities to stand on the top of police vans.

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the video is part of a stunt.

Upon closely observing the video, we noticed that the actors were being taken to a large stage with decorations and UMANG 2023 written on it. The video had the watermark text ‘Voompla’.

Taking this as a hint, we searched with appropriate keywords and found that an Instagram channel, Voompla, has uploaded the same video. The video was shared with a caption, “Police car pe Entertainment pro max as Akki and the wired headphones dude vibe with Umang!!” Umang is an annual event honouring the Mumbai police where celebrities come together to police fraternity.

The video of the event was also shared by India Today on December 24, 2023. The report suggested that at the event, Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s grand entry caught the attention of all by showing up on top of a police car.

We further found that NDTV had also reported about this event on December 24, 2023. The report read, “The Mumbai Police annual event Umang was held on Saturday night and was attended by some of the biggest names in the film fraternity.”

Another report by NDTV read, “While we eagerly await the on-screen collaboration of Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, the dynamic duo is busy creating off-screen magic. On Saturday night, Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff attended the annual Umang event organised by the Mumbai Police. In a video, which has been doing the rounds on social media, Akshay and Tiger Shroff are seen perched atop a police van. The duo are seen acknowledging the cheers by waving at fans.”

Hindustan Times also reported the same and stated that the video of Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff atop a police vehicle was a stunt performed at Umang 2023. The report read, “Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff took things a notch up at Mumbai Police’s Umang 2023 on Saturday. The two arrived at the event with full swag, on top of a police car. Videos from their grand entry have gone viral on social media.”

The video was also shared by Tiger Shroff on his Instagram handle.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral video was shared with a misleading claim.
