A video is being widely shared on social media in which cows are being swept away in floodwaters.

The caption claims that the video is from the recent flood that happened in Bangladesh.

A social media user shared the video with the caption, “Divine retribution begins on Bangladesh. The fact that the worst floods of the century devastated this bloodthirsty sect is testimony to the suffering of the Hindus. Atrocities against Hindus will not go unpunished. Rape, murder and temple destruction will also be counted.” (Translated from Hindi)

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim was false. We found that the viral video shows a flood in Mexico in 2020.

On doing a Google reverse image search, we found the same video uploaded by a YouTube channel on July 28, 2020.

The video was shared with a description which when translated from Spanish reads, “The Conchal River carries cattle away. The torrential rains caused by the remnants of #Hanna left strong floods due to the overflow of rivers and streams.”

Taking a hint, we searched with appropriate keywords and found that The Times of India published the viral video on August 22, 2020. The video was shared with a caption suggesting that cows were seen washing away in the floodwaters in Mexico.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral video is old and unrelated to Bangladesh.
