A video showing a wall of flames engulfing an open area is being widely shared on social media. Those sharing the video claim that it shows the aftermath of a Hezbollah rocket exploding in Israel.

A social media user shared the video and wrote, “Hezbollah fired so many rockets that Israel was reduced to ashes. Now let’s see what Israel does.”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim was false. The video is from Brazil.

On doing a Google reverse image search, we found the same video shared by an X account on August 11, 2024, with a Portuguese caption which when translated read, “A large fire broke out in a warehouse located behind a store on Dr Isaias Antunes Avenue, in Novo Progresso, near BR-163, this Saturday, the 11th. The fire quickly spread, spilling oil onto the streets, reaching nearby stores and businesses.” Novo Progresso is a municipality in the state of Pará in the northern region of Brazil.

We further found a screenshot of the video published by a website on August 12, 2024.

The report associated with the screenshot suggested that a massive fire broke out in a warehouse behind a store on Avenida Doutor Isaías Antunes in Novo Progresso. Soon the fire spread spilling oil onto the streets and reaching nearby stores and businesses, affecting many businesses. The fire also impacted some houses in the region.

The screenshot in the report contained the same brown business board seen in the viral clip.

The video of the incident was also shared by an X account called Ver-o-Facto, a news website, as mentioned in the bio, on August 12, 2024. The caption read, “Large fire destroys commercial area in Novo Progress.”

Hence, we conclude that the viral video is old and from Brazil, not Israel.
