Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim was false. The video shows footage of a protest in Venezuela.

On doing a Google reverse image search, we found a similar video shared by an Instagram user on July 30, 2024, with a Spanish caption that read, “Protest in Puerto La Cruz, Anzoátegui state, against Maduro’s fraud.”

We also found the video on a Facebook page of a news anchor in Venezuela shared on July 29, 2024. The caption stated that it shows a protest that erupted in Puerto La Cruz in Venezuela after president Nicolás Maduro won the election. The protest was the result of the opposition accusing Maduro of election fraud.

We analysed the videos found with the viral video to prove that both show the same event. One of the clues is a red building present in all videos. Using Google Lens, we found that the building is the Centro Comercial Regina situated in Puerto la Cruz, Venezuela.

We further found media reports of the protest that broke out in Venezuela after Maduro won the elections in 2024.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral video is from Venezuela, not India.
