Haryana State Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in Haryana on October 5. Against this context, a video is being widely shared on social media allegedly showing a large crowd shouting slogans and waving black flags in front of a convoy of vehicles carrying BJP leaders.

Those sharing the video claim that the video is recent and shows the public mood that is against Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini ahead of the State elections.

A social media user shared the video and wrote, “Massive opposition against Haryana’s current chief minister Nayab Singh Saini. Truly, the BJP government has ruined the farmers.” (Translated from Hindi)

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim was misleading. The viral video was old and was from before Nayab Singh Saini was made Haryana CM.

On doing a Google reverse image search, we found the same video shared by a Facebook page on October 16, 2020. The caption suggested that the video shows a rally that the BJP took out in favour of agriculture bills in Haryana.

Using this clue, we searched with relevant keywords and found a similar video of the incident shared by The Tribune’s Facebook page on October 14, 2020. However, the video was shared with the caption that reads, “Farmers block BJP’s rally in Ambala, show black flags.”

We also compared the viral video with the one shared by The Tribune and were able to find similarities between the two. The red tractor, the man in the maroon kurta sitting on the right and another sitting in the centre with a pink kurta can be seen in both videos.

The Tribune also reported the incident on October 14, 2020. The report suggests that farmers protested the three controversial farm laws in Naraingarh during a tractor rally by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders such as Ambala MP Rattan Lal Kataria, Kurukshetra MP Nayab Saini and Ambala BJP chief Rajesh Batoura. A similar video of the incident was also shared by The Logical Indian.

In 2020, Manohar Lal Khattar was the chief minister of Haryana, not Nayab Saini.

Hence, we ascertain that the viral video is old.
