Rumours of a romantic relationship between Tamil actor Trisha and actor-turned-politician Vijay began from their strong on-screen chemistry, a long break in collaborations, and Trisha’s 2024 mirror selfie with affectionate captions.
However, they have always denied having a romantic relationship between them.
In the above context, an image is being widely shared on social media in which a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party worker is seen holding a placard. The placard has photos of Vijay and Trisha. The text embedded in the image reads, “Vijay-Trisha photo with Thaveka volunteers in the Tamil Nagai campaign!”
The image is shared with a caption claiming that the TVK volunteer is holding a placard showing the relationship between Vijay and Trisha.
A social media user shared the image with a mocking caption that reads, “Anna's reaction right now.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral image is edited. The original image shows the volunteer holding the placard with a photo of Vijay and superstar Vijayakanth.
On closely viewing the viral image, we can see that it has the logo of News Tamil 24X7.
Using the hint, we found the image on the Instagram page of NewsTamil 24X7 digital, dated September 20.
The image was shared with a caption that reads, “Volunteers with Vijay-Vijayakanth’s photo in Nagai Taveka campaign!” The caption further suggested that the image was from Nagai.
We compared the viral image with the image shared by NewsTamil 24X7 and found many similarities. For instance, the man in the maroon shirt on the right and the man in a white shirt and glasses behind are present in both photos. However, in the original image, the man holding the placard shows photos of Vijay and Vijayakanth, not Vijay and Trisha.
We further found another image shared by an Instagram user on September 20, in which we can see the photo of Vijay and Vijayakanth on a placard.
Another similar image shot from a different angle was shared by News 18 Tamil on September 20 with a caption that reads, “TVK Vijay Campaign | Captain and Thalapathy - Vijay rally in Nagai.”
As per an Indian Express report, Vijay’s rally was held in Nagai (Nagapattinam) on September 20, in which he slammed DMK’s restrictions on his events as ‘semma (extreme) comedy,’ accused the party of curbing free speech, and positioned his TVK campaign as a people’s uprising.
Why are people sharing photos of Vijay and Vijayakanth together?
Vijayakanth is a veteran actor and politician who founded Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) in September 2005. Like TVK, DMDK also claims to be the pro-people party.
Vijayakanth helped launch Vijay’s career; when Vijay’s debut flopped, he acted alongside Vijay (in Sendhoorapandi) without taking pay, giving the younger star a boost.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
