Tensions escalated between Iran and Israel once again on June 8, with both sides exchanging missile and drone strikes.
A video showing a drone striking a multi-storey building has gone viral on social media. The text embedded on the video reads, “Iran-Israel conflict gathers pace, Tel Aviv under threat.”
The video is shared with a caption claiming it shows the latest attack on Tel Aviv amid escalating Iran-Israel tensions.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Iran-Israel tensions at its peak, reports of retaliation towards Tel Aviv. News emerge of a new wave of Iranian retaliation towards Tel Aviv amid growing tensions between Iran and Israel. Tensions across the region have increased even more after recent events. Both parties are accusing each other, while the international community is keeping an eye on the situation. The situation in the Middle East is constantly changing, and new events emerge. Conclusions will be appropriate based on official information and reliable sources.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is old and shows a building hit by a drone from Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
On a Google reverse image search, we found a video news report uploaded by the Associated Press on YouTube on September 17, 2025. The report clearly identified the viral clip as footage of a Russian drone strike on a building in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
We further found that the same video was also shared by Reuters on September 16, with a caption that reads, “A Russian drone strike hit the Kharkiv National Pharmaceutical University on September 16, setting the roof ablaze and injuring four people, mayor Ihor Terekhov said.”
The same video was also shared by ABC News.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral video is old and unrelated to the recent clash.
