Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim was false. We found that the video is of Parvej Khan winning the SEC Championship.

On doing a Google reverse image search, we found the same video uploaded by India Today on its YouTube channel on May 15, 2024. It was titled, ‘Meet Parvej Khan, The 19-Year-Old Running Sensation From India.’

The caption of the video stated that India’s Parvej Khan won the 1500m race in the SEC Championship.

Another video uploaded by the YouTube page NNIS Sports News stated that the video is of Parvej Khan who won the 1500 m race in SEC Championship. He is the first Indian to win this championship.

The report was also published by Times Now. The report stated that Parvej Khan from Meerut secured his place in the finals of both 800m and 1500m races in SEC Championships 2024.

A report by Firstpost stated that Parvej Khan won gold in the 1500m race after he clocked a timing of 3:42.73 seconds.

Moreover, till now India has not won a gold medal in the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics. According to the official Olympic medals tally of all countries, India has won three bronze medals, all from the Indian shooting team.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
