A video showing a multi-storey building collapsing has gone viral on social media.
The video is being shared as footage of the recent collapse of a five-storey PG hostel in Delhi’s Satya Niketan, where at least seven people were reportedly killed on September 6, 2026.
The footage shows several people standing on a street and watching as a multi-storey building collapses. The structure then hits an electric pole.
A social media user shared the video with the caption, “Delhi hostel accident: 5-storey building collapses, 3 students dead.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is not from the Satya Niketan incident. It was recorded in Karawal Nagar, Delhi, in June 2026.
We conducted a Google reverse image search using keyframes from the viral video. This led us to a Facebook page that had shared the same video on June 4, 2026.
The caption, translated from Hindi, said that a four-storey building had suddenly collapsed in Delhi’s Karawal Nagar. It added that residents had been evacuated safely after cracks appeared in the building, preventing a major tragedy.
The same footage was also shared by News18 Chhattisgarh on June 4, 2026. Its caption identified the incident as a building collapse in Delhi’s Karawal Nagar.
We also found a report by ETV Bharat report published on June 4, 2026, which carried a screenshot from the same video.
According to the report, a four-storey building collapsed in Delhi’s Karawal Nagar on June 3 after cracks appeared in the structure earlier that afternoon.
Authorities had evacuated the building before it collapsed, preventing casualties. Preliminary findings suggested that nearby drain construction and repair work may have contributed to the damage.
Police, fire officials and the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) inspected the site. Authorities also examined nearby buildings and launched an investigation.
The viral video was shared online by June 4, 2026. The Satya Niketan PG hostel collapsed on September 6, 2026.
The footage therefore predates the recent incident by around three months. It shows a building collapse in Karawal Nagar and is unrelated to the Satya Niketan PG hostel collapse.
Verdict: False. The viral video does not show the collapse of the PG hostel in Delhi’s Satya Niketan. It shows a building collapse in Karawal Nagar in June 2026.
