The 2026 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election will be held in two phases on April 23 and 29 to elect 294 MLAs. The main contest is between TMC and BJP, with results expected on May 4.
In the above context, a video is being widely shared on social media in which people are seen throwing stones at an army convoy. The video is shared with a caption suggesting that it shows people in West Bengal pelting stones at Army personnel in West Bengal ahead of the election.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “In West Bengal’s Malda and Murshidabad districts, there have recently been incidents—especially in April 2026—where mobs attacked security forces, held officials hostage, and targeted vehicles. Considering the serious law-and-order situation, the investigation has been handed over to the NIA, and its preliminary report will be submitted to the Supreme Court.” (Translated from Hindi)
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video is from Lahore, Pakistan.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by a Facebook page on October 16, 2025. The video was shared with a caption suggesting that it was from Lahore, Pakistan.
We found another Pakistani Facebook page that shared the same video on October 13, 2025. The caption associated with the video read, “The conflict between Tehreek-e-Labbaik and the police has increased in Lahore. The difference is that they put flowers on their neck in Kabul and throw stones in Lahore.”
Moreover, on closely observing the video, we can see that the police vehicle has ‘RMP’ written on it. RMP is the Riot Management Police (RMP), Punjab, which has been established as a critical component of maintaining public order, particularly in volatile situations where political, social and economic tensions may give rise to public demonstrations, protests or violent unrest.
On further observing the video, we saw a shop named ‘Lovely Cold Corner.’
We found the location on Google Maps and found that the store is in Lahore’s Samanabad Town. We found that the shop initially had a pink billboard but has now changed to a blue billboard. However, we can see the same building with grey tiles and the same windows. Also, we can see the bridge near the shop. All of this suggests that they are in the same location.
While we couldn’t confirm what the incident in the video is about, we could ascertain that the video is old and is from Pakistan.
