The Delhi Assembly Elections were held on February 5, and the result was declared on February 8. The BJP won the elections by getting 48 out of 70 seats.

In the above backdrop, a video is being widely shared in which people are seen performing aarti at the bank of a river.

Those sharing the video claim that it shows aarti being done at the bank of Yamuna River marking BJP coming to power in Delhi.

A social media user shared the video and wrote, “Today, for the first time, Yamuna ji’s aarti was seen in Delhi. The hope is that now Delhiites will get to see Yamuna ji’s Aarti meaning now Delhi will soon become Indraprastha.”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. Performing the Yamuna Aarti began in 2024 before the BJP government came to power.

We found many social media posts that claimed that the video was of Yamuna Bank located near the Kashmere Gate area in Delhi.

Taking a hint, we searched with appropriate keywords and found the same video uploaded by News18 Himachal on February 13, 2025. The report suggested that the viral video was of Yamuna Aarti held at the Kashmere Gate Yamuna Ghat, Delhi.

We also found a report by The Times of India, published on January 24, 2024. The report suggested that Delhi will have its own ghats on the western bank of the river opposite Kashmere Gate, ISBT, where aarti will be organised. The announcement was made at a religious event held at Vasudev Ghat, where prayers were offered by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at a replica of the newly built temple of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya.

We found a YouTube video uploaded by Curly Tails on December 10, 2024. The video showed Yamuna Aarti at Vasudev Ghat, Kashmiri Gate. The caption also suggested that the aarti is held every Sunday and Tuesday at 6:30 pm in summer and 6 pm in winter.

Moreover, a travelling website, Tusk Travel also mentioned the Yamuna Aarti. It mentioned that the Yamuna Aarti at Vasudev Ghat was inaugurated on March 12, 2024, by Vinai Kumar Saxena and Subhasish Panda, vice chairman, DDA. Vasudev Ghat is part of an initiative by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to rejuvenate 66 hectares of ghats along the Yamuna River from Wazirabad to the Old Railway Bridge.

Further, we found that Yamuna Aarti is not new. A 9-year-old video published on November 13, 2015, by India TV suggested that the then Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had hosted and conducted the first Yamuna Aarti in Delhi at Gita Ghat.

Therefore, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
