A video is being widely shared on social media in which a massive crowd is seen carrying a single brick on their heads each and bringing them all to one place. Those sharing the video claim it shows ongoing construction of a new Babri Masjid in Bangladesh.

A social media user shared the video and wrote, “New Babri Masjid is rising in Bangladesh Mashallah.”

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is from the construction of the Babri Masjid in Murshidabad, West Bengal.

On a Google reverse image search, we found the same video on YouTube, uploaded on December 8. The caption read, “Murshidabad Babri Masjid #communityevent #wrestling #holidayevent #fightnight”

We further searched with relevant keywords and found a video report by NDTV, dated December 7.

In the video, at around 16 seconds, we can see the same building visible in the viral video. The ground report suggests that the villagers, mostly locals from the surrounding areas of Malda and Murshidabad districts, came to Murshidabad’s Beldanga in large numbers to donate bricks and cash.

We further found that there are no reports of the Babri Masjid construction in Bangladesh.

What is the controversy about?

According to the reports, suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir laid the foundation stone for a mosque in Murshidabad modelled on the demolished Babri Masjid, sparking political heat in West Bengal.

The VHP called the move unlawful and urged an FIR, while security was tightened amid sharp BJP–TMC clashes over the plan.
