The ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) is a satirical youth-led political movement launched in India on May 16.

It emerged after remarks comparing unemployed youth to ‘cockroaches’ sparked outrage online. The movement uses humour and memes to highlight issues like unemployment, exam paper leaks, political unaccountability, and youth frustration with mainstream politics.

In the above context, a video is being widely shared on social media in which a man can be seen pulling out wads of currency notes from a policeman’s pocket.

The video is being shared on social media, claiming the policeman was caught red-handed taking a bribe due to the influence and awareness created by the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’.

A social media user shared the video and wrote, “In Chhattisgarh, Sub-Inspector caught red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 30,000. The ‘Cockroach People’s Party’ has begun cleaning up the rotten system across the country.” (Translated from Hindi)

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video is from February and shows ACB catching a police official taking a bribe in Chhattisgarh.

On a Google reverse image search, we found that the video was shared by NewsX on X, dated February 25.

The video was shared with a caption that reads, “Sub-Inspector Abdul Munaf was caught red-handed by the ACB in Chhattisgarh while accepting a bribe. Despite his many excuses, the evidence was clear. A stern reminder that the law eventually catches up with those who abuse their power.”

Since the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ was launched only in May, we can confirm that the viral video is old.We further found that the screenshot of the video was also shared by a website, Cross Town News, on March 24.

The report suggested that SI Abdul Munaf was caught red-handed by the ACB in Chhattisgarh while accepting a bribe. The SI resisted with the team forcefully, but after getting bribe money from his pocket, he was taken into custody for further legal proceedings.

We further found that Dainik Bhaskar also reported on the incident three months ago. The report suggests that in Chhattisgarh, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) cracked down on two separate bribery cases.

In the first case, SI Abdul Munaf was caught red-handed accepting Rs 25,000 from a farmer after allegedly demanding Rs 50,000 and threatening to implicate him in a murder case. In Balodabazar, a government school principal was arrested for demanding Rs 15,000 from a disabled teacher to release disability allowance dues.

Hence, we can confirm that the viral claim is false.
