A video is widely being shared on social media in which police are seen using batons against the crowd.
The video is shared with a caption insinuating that the Uttar Pradesh police have charged batons against protestors who are demanding jobs from the Uttar Pradesh government.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that read, “Naukri Mangoge, Toh aise hi pitoge. Samjhe UP walon!!” (English translation, “If you ask for job, then you will be beaten like this in UP.”)
SouthCheck found the claim to be misleading. The video is of the promotional event of Akshay Kumar’s upcoming movie.
On doing a Google Reverse Image Search with one of the screenshots, we found that the same video was uploaded by a Reddit User on February 26, 2024, with a caption that reads, “Police lathicharged on people during the event of actors Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, who reached Lucknow for the promotion of the film Chhote Miyan Bade Miyan.”
We found the video was also uploaded by a YouTube channel, FilmyEyes onFebruary 26, 2024, with a caption that reads, "Uncontrollable crowd that came to see Akshay Kumar-Tiger Shroff pelted stones, police lathicharged."
We found Latestly had also shared the video of the lathicharge and reported the incident. The report suggested that actors Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff arrived in Lucknow to promote their upcoming movie, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. At the promotional event, chaos happened resulting in a stampede-like situation. The situation escalated, and the police were forced to lathi-charge the fans to bring the situation under control.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is misleading.
