The results of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, declared on May 4, marked a major political shift in the state. The BJP won a historic mandate, securing over 200 seats and ending the TMC’s 15-year rule under Mamata Banerjee. Led by Suvendu Adhikari, the BJP’s victory reshaped Bengal’s political landscape, while allegations over voter roll revisions and post-poll violence sparked controversy.
In the above context, a video is being widely shared on social media in which TMC leader Moina Mitra is seen allegedly fainting inside a vehicle while Rahul Gandhi is also around.
The video is shared with a caption claiming that Moina fainted after the West Bengal election results.
A social media user shared the video and wrote, “Moina is stunned..! TMC’s crushing defeat echoes.” (Translated from Hindi)
SouthCheck found that the claim is misleading. The viral video is from 2025 and shows Moina Mitra fainting during a protest march to the ECI’s office.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the screenshot was from the Lokmat Times on August 11, 2025.
According to the report, during an Opposition march to the Election Commission office over Bihar’s electoral roll revision, TMC MP Mahua Moitra fainted amid clashes with police after barricades were breached. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was seen offering her water and helping her recover. Another TMC MP, Mitali Bagh, also reportedly fainted during the protest. Several Opposition leaders were later detained by the Delhi Police.
The video was also shared by The Hindustan Times on August 11, 2025, with a caption that reads, “A protest march by INDIA bloc MPs to the Election Commission’s office in the capital on Monday saw high drama, with Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra fainting midway and being attended to by party colleagues.”
The incident was also reported by The Free Press Journal.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is misleading.
