An image of a ring and a piece of paper that were seemingly destroyed in a fire has gone viral.
Those sharing the image claim that the ring belonged to Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah who was reported killed in an Israeli airstrike on September 27, 2024.
A social media user shared the image with the caption, “Nasrallah’s ring. His body was identified by it #Nasrallah #Israel #Lebanon #iran #Hezbollah.”
SouthCheck found that the claim was false. We found that the viral image is old and is not linked to Nasrallah's death.
On doing a Google reverse image search, we found the same image published by a website on April 2, 2024. The report associated linked the image to the death of Major General Mohammad Reza Zahedi “Abu Mahdi”, commander of the Quds Force in Lebanon and Syria.
Another report suggested that the photo was shared by a journalist Abdullah Ganji. He had published it on X handle with a caption suggesting that it shows the martyrdom of Sardar Zahedi during the missile attack on the Iranian consulate building in Syria. The post further suggested that the ring was given to him at the request of Martyr Zahedi inside the shrine of Imam Reza.
Another report also published the image with a report suggesting that it belonged to Major General Mohammadreza Zahedi, who was killed when Israel attacked the Iranian consulate in Damascus.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral image is old.
