India clinched their ninth Asia Cup title with a five-wicket victory over Pakistan in the 2025 final at the Dubai International Stadium. Chasing 147, India were in trouble at 20/3 but Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 69 guided them to 150/5 with two balls to spare. Spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy restricted Pakistan to 146 all out. The match was marred by controversy when the Indian team declined to accept the trophy from a Pakistani official, citing strained relations.
In the above context, a video is being widely shared on social media in which people are vandalising a stadium by tearing and throwing the plastic chairs at each other.
Those sharing the video claim it shows Pakistani cricket fans vandalising the stadium after their team lost the Asia Cup against India.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Pakistanis went mad with defeat. Vandalism occurred in the Dubai Stadium. The Dubai government is preparing to crush Pakistanis.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video is of the 2022 Asia Cup, when Pakistani fans vandalised the stadium after the match with Afghanistan.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by India Today on September 8, 2022. The video was shared with a report stating that a violent clash erupted between Afghanistan and Pakistan cricket fans at Sharjah Cricket Stadium following their Asia Cup match on September 7, 2022.
The video was also shared by The Economic Times on September 8, 2022, with a caption that reads, “Afghan fans throw chairs after their team loses, allegedly beat Pak supporters.”
Taking a hint, we searched with relevant keywords and found that the incident was also reported by NDTV on September 8, 2022.
According to the report, the video shows Afghan supporters throwing chairs at Pakistani fans and vandalising stadium property. The altercation reportedly stemmed from Afghan fans’ frustration over their team’s narrow one-wicket loss. UAE police briefly detained several Afghan fans for hooliganism. This incident was widely condemned, with former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar criticising the violence and urging fans to respect the spirit of the game.
Hence, we can ascertain that the claim is false.
