A video of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi visiting a temple has gone viral.

Those sharing the video claim it shows Rahul Gandhi visiting the Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu and Kashmir during the Navratri festival in 2025.

A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Navratri Special: Rahul Gandhi’s viral video! Rahul Gandhi completed the arduous 12km trek to Mata Vaishno Devi! Sweating and smiling, he sang. ‘You called me Sherabaliye...’ No other leader can do what Rahul Gandhi can! True devotion and courage. #Navratri #Navratri2025 #navratrifestival #VaishnoDevi #RahulGandhi” (Translated from Hindi)

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is misleading. The video is from 2021.

On a Google reverse image search, we found the same video shared by the official YouTube channel of Rahul Gandhi on September 10, 2021.

The video was shared with a caption that reads, “This video is about my pilgrimage to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi.”

In the video, at around the 1:49-minute mark, we can see the same visuals as in the viral video.

The similarities in the video are a woman in a red dress, Rahul Gandhi wearing a mask and a black T-shirt and a person in a white T-shirt and a black turban in the background.

We found another video by India Today on September 9, 2021.

The video also had clips of the viral video. It was shared with a caption that reads, “Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited Jammu on Thursday. He began his visit on September 9 and headed towards Katra to pay obeisance at the holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi. After receiving the blessings of Mata Vaishno Devi, Rahul Gandhi will participate in political programs in Jammu tomorrow. He was scheduled to address the party workers and leaders in Jammu.”

Moreover, we found no reports of Rahul Gandhi visiting the Vaishno Devi temple recently.

We found The Hindu had also reported on the event on September 9, 2021. According to the report, Rahul Gandhi walked from Katra to offer prayers at the Mata Vaishno Devi temple. He said he came purely for devotional reasons and would not make political comments.

Hence, we can ascertain that the claim is misleading.
