Yusha Rahman

A video is being widely shared on social media where some people are seen vandalising a railway station. The video is shared with a caption claiming that the incident occurred at the Navpara Mahishasur Railway station in West Bengal where Muslims vandalised a station over the disruption by the sound of trains.

A social media user shared the video with the caption, “Mahishashur railway station in Murshidabad West Bengal being destroyed saying that sound of a train whistle is disturbing their namaz. Enjoy & reap the fruits of Secularism.”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. We found that the video is from 2019 when people vandalised a railway station during an anti-CAA protest.

On searching with appropriate keywords, we found a larger version of the same video uploaded by a YouTube channel on November 18, 2020. The video is shared with a caption suggesting that young men vandalise railway station in West Bengal during CAA/NRC incidents in India.

We found that a local website had also reported about the incident. The report suggested that people vandalised Murshidabad railway station to mark anti-CAA protests. As a part of the protest, they doused five trains on fire and tried to remove the railway line.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral video is old and is associated with anti-CAA protests.
