A video of a blast has gone viral on social media with the claim that it shows Hezbollah, the Lebanese Shia Islamist political party, attacking a petrochemical plant south of Haifa, Israel.
A social media user, running a parody account of influencer Dhruv Rathee, shared the video and wrote, “Hezbollah attacks a petrochemical plant south of Haifa.”
SouthCheck found that the claim was false. The video is old and it shows Israel attacking a Yemeni port.
On doing a Google reverse image search, we found the same video published by the BBC on September 30, 2024.
The report associated with the video suggested that the explosion occurred in the Yemeni city of Hudaydah following a series of strikes by the Israeli Air Force. The report stated that the strikes resulted in an explosion at the city’s seaport and a massive fire at the Al-Hali power station captured on camera by the Houthi-controlled Al Masirah TV.
The video was also shared by The Guardian on September 30, 2024. It was shared with a caption that stated that Israel’s military conducted airstrikes on the Houthi-controlled Yemeni Red seaport city of Hodeidah. Local health officials reported that at least four individuals were killed and more than 30 were injured.
Hence, we can conclude that the viral video of an Israeli air strike on a Yemeni port is being shared with a false claim.
