In the backdrop of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, a video of Army men who seemed to be captured in enemy territory has gone viral. Those sharing the video claim it shows Israel capturing members of the Hezbollah Army.

A social media user shared the video with the caption, “Israel has now found Hezbollah’s Army and will punish them.”

SouthCheck found that the claim was false. The viral video shows the Ukrainian Armed Forces captured by Russian soldiers.

On doing a Google reverse image search, we found a report that contained the screenshot of the video, published on July 28, 2024.

The report associated with the image suggested that paratroopers from the special forces of the 154th Separate Reconnaissance Battalion (ORB) successfully reached the islands in the Krynki area. They captured the command post of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and 10 Ukrainian marines from the 137th Separate Marine Brigade (OBMP).

We also found an X account, Ukraine/Russia News, which shared the same video on October 3, 2024. The caption associated with the video suggested that Russian paratroopers’ special forces captured Ukrainian Armed Forces units while securing islands along the Dnieper River in the Kherson region. The video also showed a captured Ukrainian soldier being forced to unlock his phone to reveal information to Russian soldiers.

The video was also shared in a forum with the title, ‘Russian Armed Forces paratroopers seize Ukrainian Armed Forces command post.’

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral video is not linked to the Israel-Hezbollah conflict.
