Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video is from Tamil Nadu.

On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by the YouTube channel of News Tamil 24X7 on September 25, 2024. The caption stated that police lathi-charged transgender persons in Tirunelveli.

We further found that the incident was also reported by Thanthi TV.

According to the report, the conflict began when two transgender women were detained on suspicion of extorting money from two-wheeler riders along the Nellai-Kanyakumari National Highway (NH‑44) near Panagudi.

In response, around 40 transgender community members gathered outside the local police station to protest their detention. The situation escalated; some protesters vandalised property, abused officers, and one removed her clothing as a form of protest.

Police then lathi‑charged the group, injuring at least five transgender individuals, who later demanded action against the officers involved.

The incident was also reported by News 18 Tamil Nadu.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
