An image of two men carrying a body wrapped in a black plastic sheet tied to a bamboo pole has gone viral with the claim that it shows Karnataka police handling a dead person without any respect.

A social media user shared the image and wrote, “Congress’s Karnataka model. It’s the policemen who are showing this kind of indecency toward the dead body.” (Translated from Malayalam)

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The image is from Bihar.

On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same image was shared by Dainik Bhaskar on August 29.

The report stated that the viral incident is from Maner, Bihar, where a 10-year-old girl was raped and murdered. It further stated that the culprits hanged the dead body on a tree and ran away.

The incident was also reported by Live Hindustan on August 30.

Live Hindustan also quoted City SP West Bhanu Pratap Singh, who said, “Police solved the case within 12 hours. The orchard caretaker, Bhola Rai, raped and murdered a girl who knew him. Fearing exposure, he strangled her with a rope, hanged her from a tree to make it look like suicide, and tried to burn the body. CCTV cameras installed in the orchard revealed that a day earlier, on August 25, Rai had molested the girl, which was caught on tape. Based on this footage, police interrogated and arrested him. On August 26, when the girl went to collect firewood, Rai dragged her out of CCTV range, raped her, and then killed her. He has been sent to judicial custody.”

According to the report, a 10-year-old girl in Maner went missing on August 26. Her body was discovered hanging from a tree two days later. Villagers blocked roads and damaged vehicles, demanding that the police arrest the accused.

The incident was also reported by Prabhat Khabar. The report showed the body being carried from another angle.

Hence, we conclude that the claim is false.
