Currently, the West Asia war is spilling into the tech sector, with Microsoft and other firms exposed to missile threats on Middle East data centres and rising cyberattacks exploiting Windows vulnerabilities, potentially disrupting global digital infrastructure and eroding trust in tech systems.
In the above context, a video is being widely shared on social media in which a building is engulfed in fire. Those sharing the video claim it shows the headquarters of a tech giant in Israel on fire from an Iranian strike.
Text embedded in the video reads, “Iran’s attack on the headquarters of major companies like Apple and Microsoft in Israel.” (Translated from Hindi)
A social media user shared the video and wrote, “Iran attack on big tech company headquarters in Israel. Israeli headquarters of big companies like Apple and Microsoft were attacked by Iran. The incident has raised security concerns, and it is being reported in international media.”
SouthCheck found that the viral claim is false. The viral video is AI-generated.
We found reports stating that many offices of tech giants, such as Oracle, Apple, Microsoft, Google, etc., in Israel could come under the radar of Iranian missiles. However, we found no reports of an attack having occurred at any of these places.
Further, we closely observed the video and found that the fire looks AI-generated. For instance, the flames at the top of the building appear dynamic and irregular. Moreover, we can also see that though the fire is on the top floors, the water cannon is being spread on the first floor. All of which suggests that the viral video is AI-generated.
We further analysed the video with the AI image detection tools SightEngine and Hive Moderation. SightEngine stated that the video is 98 per cent AI, while Hive moderation stated a probability of 89.2 per cent of AI content being present.
Therefore, we conclude that the claim is false.
