The video shows Bangladesh police handing over Dipu Das to extremists who lynched him.

On December 18, Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu man in Bangladesh, died after being brutally assaulted by a mob in Bhaluka, Mymensingh district, following allegations of blasphemy. The incident sparked outrage, with rights groups demanding accountability and stronger protection for religious minorities amid rising communal violence.

In the above context, a video is being widely shared on social media in which a weeping man is seen being restrained and taken away by police.

The video is shared with a caption suggesting that the man in the video is Dipu Chandra Das, and despite his pleas police handed him to the religious extremists in Bangladesh.

The text on the video reads, “Dipu Chandra Das kept crying. He kept pleading, but the Bangladesh police handed him over to die at the hands of radical Muslims. Deepu kept saying again and again, ‘Sir, I am innocent. Sir, I am innocent. Sir, I have done nothing wrong.”

A social media user shared the video with a caption similar to the text on the video.

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. We found that the viral video is old and unrelated.

On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by a Bangladeshi Facebook page, Bhorer Kagoj, on November 18. The video was shared with a caption that reads, “What happened to the students of Dhaka college?”

Since the video predates the date when Dipu was killed, we can ascertain that the viral video is old.

Moreover, on closely hearing the conversation in the video, we can hear the police ask the man why he’s there, and he says he came to the market. Then he’s seen on the phone, upset, saying police beat him, and a senior officer later protected him. Toward the end, another man, likely his friend, says they had just come from the campus. Thus, suggesting they are students of Dhaka College.

The man in the viral video has a logo in the left corner of the t-shirt. This logo is the same as the logo of Dhaka College. All of this suggests that the boy in the video is from Dhaka College.

We found another on the Facebook page, Dainik Sokal, where the Dhaka Metropolitan Police DC Masud Alam can be seen helping the same man board a rickshaw. The caption associated with the video suggests that the boy was injured and he was sent to his hostel by DC Masud.

The video of the incident was also shared by the YouTube channel, Dhaka Today.

Taking a hint, we searched with relevant keywords and found that in November 2025, violent clashes erupted in Dhaka College in Bangladesh.

According to the reports of Dhaka Tribune, published on November 20, students from Dhaka College and City College clashed at the Science Lab intersection in Dhaka, injuring at least 32 people. The confrontation broke out in the afternoon, and the injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment. Police and security forces later intervened to control the violence.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral video is old and unrelated to the death of Dipu Das in Bangladesh.
