A video of fish swimming in a shopping mall has gone viral on social media with the claim that it shows areas in Chennai being flooded due to cyclone Michaung.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that read, “Chennai flood in supermarket. (sic)”
SouthCheck found that the claim was fake.
On doing a Google Reverse Image Search, we found the same video on a YouTube channel, Viral Hog, uploaded on February 5, 2018, with the caption, “At shopping time, suddenly the aquarium broke. All fishes were on the floor. Working personnel were trying to save the fish.” The video was marked as being from Georgia, Tbilisi.
The DailyMail also reported about the incident on February 12, 2018. The report suggested that an aquarium tank shattered in a supermarket in Georgia, leaving fish wriggling helplessly around the tiled floor.
Mirror also reported that the incident happened in a store of the French retailer in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Hence, we conclude that an old video of Georgia was falsely linked to the Chennai flood.
