Iran launched ballistic missiles at Israel’s Haifa Bazan oil refinery on June 16, damaging power infrastructure, triggering a fire, shutting the plant and killing three employees in the attack.
In the above context, a video of an explosion in a factory is going viral on social media. The video is shared with a caption suggesting that the video is of the Bazan oil refinery after an attack by Iran’s ballistic missiles.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “New Update: The Bazan Oil Refinery in Haifa has been hit, with damage to pipeline systems and fires breaking out at the site."
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is old and is from China.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by a YouTube channel on November 19, 2015. The video was shared with a caption that reads, “Chinese chemical plant explosion.”
Another YouTube channel shared the same video on November 26, 2015, with a caption suggesting that the viral video was of a Chinese chemical plant explosion that happened in Zhejiang province of China.
The incident was also shared by the website Manufacturing.net. The report suggested that the video was of a massive explosion at a Chinese chemical plant in Zhejiang province.
Thus, we can ascertain that the viral video is old and is from China, not Israel.
