The Israel–Iran war escalated on February 28 after the United States and Israel launched coordinated airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites.

Iran retaliated with waves of ballistic missiles and drones targeting Israeli cities and US bases across the Middle East. The conflict has expanded through proxy groups and attacks near the Strait of Hormuz, raising fears of a wider regional war and disruptions to global oil supplies.

In the above context, a video of an explosion in a city is widely being shared on social media. The video is shared with a caption suggesting that it shows an explosion in Tel Aviv.

A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Tel Aviv, where is the Iron Dome? Note, this is the scene tonight.”

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is from 2024 and shows Russia’s attack on Crimea.

On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by a YouTube channel on March 24, 2024, with a caption that reads, “Three Storm Shadow missiles hit a Black Sea Fleet communication centre in Sevastopol, Crimea.”

Using this information, we searched with relevant keywords and found that the same incident was also reported by Yahoo News on March 24, 2024. The report shared a screenshot of the viral video, which also had the same video embedded in it.

We also found that the longer version of the incident was also shared on March 25, 2024, with a caption that reads, “This is the moment Russian battleships are being blown to pieces in a massive missile strike by Ukraine on the annexed port city of Sevastopol. Putin’s prized £80million spy warship Ivan Khurs was also hit by two missiles in a major blow to the Russian Black Sea Fleet.”

Therefore, we conclude that the claim is false.
