Amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, Gal Gadot, the Hollywood actress prominent for playing the role of Wonder Woman in Marvel movies, has been supporting her native country, Israel, through her social media posts.
An image of Gal Gadot has now gone viral on social media. Users claim that she has joined Israel’s armed forces to fight against Hamas. The image is shared with a caption, “The famous Israeli actress Gal Gadot who played Wonder Woman in the Hollywood movie turns up for army service. #Israel #IsraelPalestineWar”
South Check found out that the viral image is misleading.
On doing a Google Reverse Image Search, we found that 9Gag published the same image on May 28, 2019. The image was shared with a caption that read, “18-year-old Gal Gadot on the first day of her Army service IRL in 2004.”
Another website, the Jewish Times also published the image with the caption, “Gal in the army, aged 18”.
The image was published on December 10, 2019. The report also suggested that Gal had served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) during the 2006 war with Lebanon.
Imgur, an image and meme-sharing website, also uploaded the image on May 28, 2019, with a title that read, “18-year-old Gal Gadot on the first day of her Army service IRL in 2004.”
Moreover, we also found no evidence of Gal Gadot joining the Israeli army in the recent past.
Hence, we conclude that the viral image is old and does not show Gal Gadot joining the Israeli army amid the current Israel-Palestine conflict.
