Israel launched Operation Rising Lion on June 13, striking over 100 Iranian military and nuclear sites. Iran replied with missile and drone barrages. Casualties exceed 600 on the Iranian side, 24 in Israel.
In the above context, a video is widely being shared on social media in which a cameraman is seen capturing a scenario where a building is seen collapsing after being hit by a drone.
Social media users shared the video with a caption suggesting that the video is from Israel, where the building collapsed after being hit by an Iranian drone.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “This camera man did not miss a single point after seeing the whole of Israel turning into rubble. Iran turned the building into sawdust in such a way that Israel was left stunned.” (Translated from Hindi)
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is old and from Gaza.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by the YouTube channel of Al Jazeera on May 14, 2021, with a caption that reads, “This is the moment the 14-storey al-Shorouq tower, housing media offices in Gaza City, was destroyed by multiple Israeli air raids.”
The incident was also reported by the website Middle East Eye on May 12, 2021. The report suggested that Al-Sharouk Tower was struck by an Israeli airstrike and became a symbol of devastation during the Israel-Gaza conflict. The high-rise, housing media offices and businesses, was reduced to rubble after being targeted by the Israeli military, which claimed it was used by Hamas. The dramatic collapse, captured live on video, drew international attention and criticism, highlighting the severe impact of airstrikes on civilian infrastructure and press freedom in Gaza.
The incident was also reported by RT.com.
Hence, we can conclude that the viral claim is false.
