A video is being widely shared on social media in which one can see a spectacular light show in a desert at night as people watch and record the scene.

The video is shared with a caption claiming that it is of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.

A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Night scene of our Jaisalmer. See, our Jaisalmer is no less than Dubai.” (Translated from Hindi)

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is from Dunhuang, China.

On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by an Instagram account on August 8, 2025, with a caption that reads, “Stars as the curtain, dunes as the stage.⁠ Zhou Shen’s voice lit up the Dunhuang desert —⁠ romance and passion echoing through the night.”

Taking a hint, we searched with relevant keywords and found another video of the same event was shared by the Facebook page of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the United States, on May 6.

The video was shared with a caption that reads, “In the parched desert, romance finally blooms. Fireworks paint the desert with the colours of all seasons. At Douyin’s Sunset Choir Party, the timeless charm of #Dunhuang meets Zhou Shen’s ethereal voice, creating a magical symphony. #China #ChinaTravel."

We compared the viral video with the original video and found them to be the same. We can see a hill in the background, with the blue light in a semi-circular form and yellow lights running parallel.

We further found a visual of the palace and the crescent-shaped lake in the background on Wikipedia. It is called the Singing Sand Dunes in Dunhuang’s China.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral video is from Dunhuang’s China, not Jaisalmer.
