On September 19, a group of men allegedly molested a teenage girl and assaulted her male companion while they were returning from coaching classes in Bihar’s Jamui district. Videos prompted police to register a POCSO case and arrest three people. On September 22, main accused Nandan Yadav was shot in the leg during a police operation, according to officials.
In the above context, a video showing two injured young men in police custody has gone viral on social media, with users claiming it shows two more accused being shot by police in connection with the Jamui student harassment case in Bihar. In the video, we can see two men having bandages on their right legs while the police have taken them into custody.
The video has been shared widely on social media with a caption that reads, “Two more criminals involved in the Jamui girl molestation case gunned down in an encounter.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is from September 7 and is from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh.
On doing a Google reverse image search, we found that the screenshot of the video was shared by India Today on September 7. According to that report, police in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, arrested two accused, Waleen and Salman, after an encounter in the Chhapar police station area in connection with the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl. Both sustained bullet injuries to their legs. Another accused, Sameer, had already been arrested.
The incident was also reported by ABP Live on September 6; police arrested two suspects in a minor girl’s alleged kidnapping and rape case after a shootout in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh.
Police said Salman and Valeen fired first and sustained leg injuries in retaliatory firing. The girl was allegedly abducted while visiting a temple and raped by prime accused Sameer, who had already been arrested. Police also reported recovering firearms.
Another website, Janta ki Awaz, also shared the screenshot of the video on September 7. The report also reiterated the same information as mentioned above.
